10 Ways to get moving
by Amy GiaQuinto
Even if you and the couch have been buddies for eternity...
1. Find what works for you
Exercise does not have to be grueling; find what's fun and comfortable for you!
2. Make a list
Make a list of activities you enjoy doing, the bigger the list, the better.
3. Figure out if you prefer doing things in solitude, with a friend or in a group
If you like doing things alone: Chose activities like walking, biking, jogging, gardening. If you enjoy company: Bring a friend or join a class.
4. Find your motivation
To keep you moving or something to look forward to if you stick with it.
For example: Listening to music, a massage, the way you feel when your done, a new pair of pants or the way your clothes will fit if you stick with it, the confidence it gives you, the health benefits, the positive message it sends your children, your grandchildren, your parents and friends.
5. Do some research
Whether you are looking for group classes or exercises to do at home, there are personal trainers you can hire for a few sessions to get you started or more to keep you going, classes you can join, community fitness centers you can enjoy.
6. Log your progress
Tracking your progress/success and how great you feel when you're down is a great motivator.
7. Start small
Don't dive in head first. Start with realistic, attainable goals. Do something even if it's for 10 minutes. Something is better than nothing!
8. Stick with it
Getting into a routine is a guarantee for success. Whatever you like to do, whether it is a number of things or one thing, make it a habit.
9. Have fun
If it's not fun, why do it? You won't stick with it, if your not at least slightly enjoying it, so find what works for you.
10. Get outside
